Veil Keeper

Can we really catch what eludes us?

I started Veil Keeper with the desire to draw a moth, then to give it a more unsettling presence. Eyes appear in its wings, a skull takes shape on its body. The more you look at it, the more you discover something you hadn't seen at first glance.

The hand comes from my series of anatomical drawings. It reaches out to catch the moth, just before it perhaps slips away. I like this suspended second: we don't know if the fingers will close, or even if they should.

The moth evokes for me what exists between two states: day and night, life and death, the visible and what one glimpses behind a veil. I blended this idea with my taste for tattooing and the imagery of pagan folklore. I didn't want to give it a precise meaning; I prefer to let everyone imagine what the hand is really trying to grasp.

As a poster, Veil Keeper gives more room to the lines and details of the hands. An image to look at closely, then to interpret in your own way.
