What if a simple flame was watching over something greater than itself?
I imagined Flame Keeper while thinking about Japanese folklore and that fascinating idea that the things around us can have a presence, a spirit, sometimes even becoming a yōkai or a guardian.
From this was born this little flame guardian. I don’t know exactly what it is protecting: a memory, a hope, or simply the light that we try to keep burning when everything turns dark.
That is what I love about this illustration. Behind a flame that appears fragile, one can imagine an entire world.
As a poster, Flame Keeper finds its place in a corner of the home, like a small light watching in silence.
